Volunteer Week: Meet, Sophie!

This volunteer week we wanted to take a moment to thank one of our Bingo volunteers, Sophie! Sophie is a high school student here in the city and after her school advertised the opportunity in their school Newsletter, Sophie was quick to offer a helping hand.

We rely on the help of volunteers for all of our events/programs. For Bingo, we specifically rely on volunteers to answer the phone calls during the game. This is a vital role in the Bingo process and without Sophie and our volunteers, Bingo would look much different!

Sophie has been with us every Monday night for the last 8 months! Not only has she mastered accepting Bingo's over the phone, she has also been our runner and our ball-call-clicker. Sophie has taken on any challenge we have thrown at her; she has even taken a swing at organizing Bingo cards during her free time.

During our time getting to know Sophie we have learned that out of all of the tasks she has excelled at, answering the phone and having that direct contact with the winners is Sophie's favorite job,

"I love answering the phone calls from all the happy winners. They put a smile on my face every time!"

Sophie has always been good at knowing the "why" we do things. Having contact with the community when they could be receiving a large amount of money makes that "why" a reality for her.

It has been so great to get to know Sophie over the last 8 months. Sophie is heavily involved in her school with sports and theatre and is often at face of helping others around her. When asked about why volunteering is important, Sophie was quick to explain how volunteering is a great way to give back to the community.

We wanted to take this moment to thank Sophie and all of our volunteers for their hard work and positivity. Volunteers are the fabric to which our foundation is built upon and things like Bingo would not be possible without community support.

Happy Volunteer Week!
